Crystal first encountered yoga in 2010, at Chicago’s Sivananda Yoga Center. She was immediately drawn to the graceful movements that reminded her of years spent in dance classes. That first Sun Salutation evolved into a daily practice, alternating between Hatha, Vinyasa and Baptiste Power Yoga.
Upon moving to Singapore in 2013, she began to practice Ashtanga regularly. It quickly became a great influence on her, leading to a desire to learn more at a teacher training.
In 2015, unexpectedly finding herself between full-time writing jobs, she traveled to Rishikesh, India and completed a 200-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher training. There, under the gaze of orange-robed swamis, she learned to go beyond just a strong asana practice by studying pranayama, meditation and practical yoga philosophies that guide daily life.
She now infuses her classes with those philosophies, putting just as much emphasis on the mind and breath, as the physical poses. Her classes are playful and challenging, mixing creative sequences with traditional foundations. She believes that anyone can do yoga - it’s just a matter of finding the right variations for each body.
While she loves the feeling of a great workout after many vinyasas, she finds the biggest benefit to a regular practice is a calm, focused mind in a life full of distractions - and hopes her classes help others on their way to finding that peace as well.
