Anusara® Bridge Program (36 hrs)
Bridging the Gap to the Anusara Professional Development Path with Bo Srey, assisted by Shirley Srey
Saturday & Sunday, December 11 & 12, 18 & 19, 2021
8am - 6.30pm

We are happy to offer the Anusara Bridge Program, a continuing education opportunity for teachers who have completed a 200-Hour Teacher Training in any style of yoga.

The Bridge Program is for:

• Yoga teachers who have previously completed a non-Anusara 200-hour yoga teacher training, or
• 200-hour Anusara yoga teacher training graduates wishing to refresh their understanding of the Anusara method.

The 36-hour Anusara Bridge Program gives 200-hour level teachers the opportunity to enter the 300-hour Anusara Advanced Teacher Training (ATT) without first having to complete a 200-hour specific Anusara yoga Teacher Training. Essentially, the bridge program facilitates entry to the 300-hour Anusara yoga teacher training for teachers with other yoga trainings. The 300-hour ATT is a prerequisite to become a licensed Anusara-Inspired yoga teacher.

The Bridge Program provides teachers with an overview of the basic Anusara methodology and philosophy. Whether you are a 200-hour trained yoga teacher taking this program as your gateway into the 300-hour ATT or you are a 200-hour Anusara teacher training graduate looking to refresh your knowledge, this course offers 36-hours of continuing education credits. These credits also count as Elective Hour credits towards completion of 300-hour ATT.

Topics include:

• Nondual tantric philosophy
• Intensive immersion into the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment
• Teaching with a theme
• Teaching with the UPAs or Universal Principles of Alignment
• Principles of sequencing
• Principles of observation and adjustment
• Other components of the methodology such as language & demonstrations

Please note, you will need to purchase the Immersion Manual ($20 USD) and Teacher Training Manual ($30 USD) separately. We will provide purchase options upon registration.

Anusara is a modern school of hatha yoga, steeped in traditional teachings and modern understanding of anatomy and biomechanics. Founded in 1997 by John Friend, Anusara became the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga (ASHY) in 2012 and is now run by an international community of Anusara yoga teachers. With over 800 teachers worldwide, ASHY became a non-profit organization in the United States in 2017. In addition to highly trained hatha yoga teachers, renowned scholars, philosophers and former monks share their wisdom in Anusara trainings and gatherings.

From the Anusara website:

Anusara yoga classes are based on a nondual Tantric philosophy that an intrinsic energy of Oneness underlies everything and everyone. This energy is a ‘goodness’ without opposite, it is auspicious. Anusara yoga teachers are trained to look for this goodness first – in the poses, in our practices, ourselves and in all of life’s experience. This perspective is a shift from looking to ‘fix or correct’ the student, to a vision of service by enhancing and revealing more beauty and innate goodness that is the supreme nature already present in the student. Anusara yoga teachers are committed to creating an uplifting and empowering experience for every student in class. They inspire lightheartedness and playfulness with a joyful creativity that is the nature of the Anusara yoga practice.

Experienced Certified Anusara Teacher (ECAT), E-RYT 500, YACEP

I view teaching yoga as service, drawing on 20 years as a student of an awakened master to enrich my hatha yoga classes. This auspicious meeting in 1998 kick started a life-long journey in the practices of meditation, mantra, karma yoga and self-inquiry. I began formally teaching yoga in 2002.

I was certified as an Anusara yoga teacher in 2009, becoming the first certified teacher in Asia. Anusara is a principle-centered, alignment-based yoga school, which at the time had one of the most rigorous certification processes in the industry. Even though I now teach in my own intuitive way, including drawing from my lifelong love of martial arts, I still use Anusara’s highly effective alignment principles. My classes are also influenced by Tony Briggs, a senior Iyengar teacher from the San Francisco Bay area, with whom I have studied and apprenticed in-depth. In addition, I am an Experienced Certified Anusara Teacher (ECAT) and Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 credentialed teacher.

Generally, my classes include a dynamic flow punctuated by clear alignment instructions and demonstrations. In my teaching, I also seek to impart the understanding that 'aligning and flowing' can have a deeper implication: that of connecting us to our profound state of intuitive wisdom and joy—the awakened state of flow.

Originally from the New York area, I have taught at major studios in San Francisco, Singapore, and Thailand. Currently based in Singapore, my wife Shirley and I teach workshops, present at yoga conferences, and offer deeper immersions and teacher trainings, both locally and internationally. My deepest wish is that my students and all beings awaken and abide as pure Awareness.

Shirley Srey is a former licensed Anusara-Inspired yoga teacher (2008-2012) and a dedicated student of Anusara for more than 15 years. Her in-depth study includes more than 200 teacher training hours directly with the founder, John Friend, and more than 2000 teacher training and immersion study hours assisting Bo.

Shirley is also a teacher of Prajna Yoga. She completed a comprehensive teacher training with Tias Little in 2006, at the Upaya Zen Center, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, and was also invited to assist Tias at a yoga conference in Hong Kong and at his Yoga Anatomy Teacher Training and Prajna Immersion in Singapore.

Currently, Shirley manages Spandananda and travels with Bo to present deeper trainings at conferences, workshops, and retreats, sharing what their teachers have taught them to students around the world.
